State Employee Health Insurance Plan: The Government Cares
from:
Being a state employee is not as easy as others think. You need to wake up at 4’oclock or 5’oclock in the morning, prepare your family’s breakfast (cooking food for your kids takes a little time to accomplish) and your kids’ school stuffs such as their uniform, school bags, and packed lunch. After sending your kids to their school bus that is waiting outside your residence, you need to prepare yourself for work.
You probably do some “flash moves” to cope up with the time that you must be in your state office to avoid possible sanctions. Once you are in your office, you8 cannot take your seat immediately. Your boss will request you to carry some important documents to different agencies and entities concerned and do some document filing tasks once you come back to the office.
Your lunch time will be the only moment you can seat comfortably in the chair without your mind worrying about different things. After it, you will start to work and stress yourself just to get that salary you need to sustain your family’s everyday needs.
That is how a typical day starts and ends for a state employee. Although working for a state government corresponds to compensation, there are still things that make a state employee worry about while in work, which may affect his performance. One of which is about the health condition of his family, especially if a medical emergency suddenly happens while you are in the office.
What if one of your children has a high fever? Do you have money set aside for medical emergencies? Payday is still a week away, yet you need money to finance the hospital bills and medicines of your child. Your other important finances will be affected.
Is there anything that you can do? Such situation is probably the worst case scenario that a state employee may experience throughout his career in the state government.
Fortunately, you are not alone. The state government in which you are working for cares for your welfare, especially for your health needs and of your dependents as well. That is why every state government provides a variety of health insurance options for state employees.
Presently, there are six health insurance options that you can choose from (although the options may vary from state to state. Always keep in touch with your respective state health department for further details with regards to health insurance options).
1. 2 Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) health insurance options;
2. 3 Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) health insurance options; and
3. A qualified High Deductible Health Insurance option (HIDP).
All state employees (whether part-time, full-time, permanent, or contractual) are eligible for the given health insurance options. There is a 60-day waiting period wherein you will wait for the health coverage to take effect. In most cases, the effective coverage date starts on the first day of any month after the 60-day waiting period.
The enrollment is held on a certain month of every calendar year. The month of enrollment depends on the implementing state government. It is advised that you always keep in touch with the concerned department of agencies for the enrollment period.
With this health insurance plan for state employees, you need not to worry about your family in case of medical emergencies. The state government always care, not only to you but also to your dependents.
