Student Health Insurance Program for your College-Bound Children

By the time your children will go to college, probably you have already satisfied and saved the expense needs that will be incurred by their higher learning. You have already paid their college tuition and other school-related fees, found the dormitory where they will stay while studying, and mapped out their freshman subjects and schedules. You are confident enough that the needs of your college-bound children are already fulfilled.



How about their health insurance plan? Is it already in place and in effect by the time your children attend their respective classes on their first day in college?



Most educational institutions in the United States require their students to have at least minimum health insurance coverage. This will serve as an assurance that their health needs will be provided while they are in college. In other words, having your children insured with a health care plan will give you that peace of mind knowing that your children’s health needs will be provided even if they live away from your home and your eagle eye.



So before the start of their first day in college, you must ensure that they have already their own health insurance plan. There are plenty of options you can choose from. About Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP)



You do not have to go far or tire yourself comparing different health insurance quotes. The educational institution where your children are presently enrolled to offers student health insurance program. Such program is created to ensure that their students will get the health services that they need especially in times of emergencies.



The eligibility, requirements, and health benefits of the program are all specified on the master policy of the college or university where your children are enrolled to. Aside from the aforementioned details, it also contains the qualifications and some exclusion to the health insurance benefits specified in the program. Such master policy will manage and control the whole program itself.



Eligibility



All registered students of the college or university are eligible to apply for the student health insurance program. Undergraduate, graduate, and international exchange students are all eligible to apply for the plan. In addition, eligible students are also given the option of enrolling their dependents on the plan they have availed. For instance, your children have the option of enrolling you or any of your family members to their health insurance plan.



Coverage Periods



The premium should be received within thirty days after the effective date of your children’s health insurance plan. However, the payment of premiums can be deferred if the insured student (1) is on birth or adoption, (2) is married, and (3) will lost their health benefits due to the loss of their parent’s health insurance plan.



The health benefits your children are entitled to may vary depending on the college or university where your children are enrolled. To further understand other details of the student health insurance program, it is best that you contact the college or university officer-in-charge of the program.
